Der 2008 verstorbene Komponist, Musiker, \"\"<\/a>Maler und Schauspieler Dorival Caymmi ist ein Idol in seinem Heimatland Brasilien und gilt dort als einer der einflussreichsten Singer-Songwriter in der Geschichte der popul\u00e4ren Musik. Pers\u00f6nlichkeiten wie Jo\u00e3o Gilberto, Gilberto Gil und Caetano Veloso verehren ihn und sehen ihn als gro\u00dfen Einfluss auf die eigene Arbeit.<\/p>\n

Die Idee zu einem Album, auf dem Lio zw\u00f6lf von Dorival Caymmis St\u00fccken singt, stammt von Jacques Duvall, dem bekannten belgischen Texter, der schon f\u00fcr Jane Birkin, Alain Chamfort und Lio Songs geschrieben hat. Dabei treten die beiden sehr behutsam an die Werke des Meisters heran und transportieren sie dank der einfallsreichen Arrangements des franz\u00f6sischen Musikers Chris Vandeputte und Lios ber\u00fchrenden und lebhaften Interpretationen in die n\u00f6rdliche Hemisph\u00e4re.<\/p>\n

Lio wurde als Vanda Maria Ribeiro Furtado Tavares de Vasconcelos in Lissabon geboren und wuchs in Br\u00fcssel auf. Nach Ver\u00f6ffentlichung ihrer Deb\u00fctsingle \u201eLe Banana Split\u201c 1979 wurde sie in Frankreich und Belgien zu einer Popikone. Es folgten mehrere \u00e4u\u00dferst erfolgreiche Alben, bei denen sie mit K\u00fcnstlern und Bands wie John Cale, den Sparks oder Telex zusammengearbeitet hat. Sie verfolgte au\u00dferdem eine Karriere als Schauspielerin mit Rollen in mehr als vierzig Spielfilmen. Lio canta Caymmi<\/em> ist ihr erstes Album in ihrer Muttersprache Portugiesisch. Es wird am 30.03.2018 bei Crammed Discs im Vertrieb von Indigo ver\u00f6ffentlicht.<\/p>\n

Lio und Jacques Duvall sind beide Fans des franz\u00f6sischen Comic-K\u00fcnstlers Loustal, der das Album-Cover gestaltet hat. <\/p>\n

Jacques Duvall \u00fcber Dorival Caymmi und das Album:<\/strong>
\nI discovered Dorival Caymmi when I bought an old compilation of his songs, performed by various Brazilian stars (Chico Buarque, Tom Jobim, Gal Costa). I instantly fell for his wonderful melodies, for his delicious blend of sophistication and simplicity. Mostly written in the 1930s, Caymmi’s songs celebrate Bahia (Brazil’s most African city), the fisherman, the sea, and love. I wanted to contribute to giving renewed exposure to this precious treasure.<\/p>\n

I played these songs to a close friend, guitarist Christophe Vandeputte, who originates from Valenciennes in Northern France (i.e. not exactly the same latitude as Bahia!). The effect was immediate: he seemed to have fallen under the spell of a voodoo sorcerer, and feverishly started creating new arrangements for these ancient little jewels. As for me, I added a verse in French to each of the original texts, in order to sum up the spirit of each song in a nutshell and make it more accessible to francophone listeners.<\/p>\n

We already knew who could sing these songs: only Lio could combine the sheer nerve (to tackle the works of this master) with the humility (to serve these songs with all her heart) which were both needed in order to do justice to these popular masterpieces. All I needed was to convince her. Caymmi’s magic was irresistible: after the first listen, a big smile appeared on her lips, I knew that a great adventure was about to begin. <\/p>\n

Marc Hollander \u00fcber die Zusammenarbeit mit Crammed Discs:<\/strong>
\nLio and Crammed Discs? The encounter is less paradoxical than it seems. We crossed paths ages ago, in this ebullient creative test tube that was Brussels in the early ’80s. Her first single had just come out, our label was being born. We attended the same gigs at Plan K, shared the same graphic designer (Marc Borgers, who created artwork for her albums as well as those of the likes of The Honeymoon Killers and Minimal Compact). Our respective paths have diverged since then, and we’ve been exploring very different territories. It’s amusing to meet again, around Brazilian music (in the course of its ramblings, Crammed has gone through a brasileira period, with Bebel Gilberto and others), and around this intimistic, nostalgic and delicate album.<\/p>\n
